Blue wave, viral memes: How the internet is reacting to the US midterm elections

The US midterm elections are mostly in the books, and, well… wow. Whether you want to call it a blue tsunami or a self-induced red riptide, the results are an unequivocal rejection of MAGA 2.0.

Online, the vibes are good. Celebratory, even.

In the aftermath of one of the most consequential midterms in American history, voters nationwide have taken to social media with quick-witted tweets and deeply referential pop culture moments to meme the hell out of Republican losses and Democrat wins.

Here are some of the funniest, cleverest, most delightfully irreverent memes going viral right now.

There’s got to be a better way to say that.

Oh, how the turn tables. As one person commented on this tweet, which has so far recorded nearly two million views and 128,000 likes: “Put this tweet in the Louvre”.

“He just looks at you like this,” as they say.

Brendan Fraser’s Oscar-winning performance in The Whale continues to live on in ways he probably never imagined.

Parker Posey’s southern drawl and self-medicating made the third season of The White Lotus an instant classic. Republican Party leaders might be reaching for the Lorazepam right about now, too.

It should be obvious by now that absolutely no one outside Silicon Valley wants what tech executives are shoving down throats the world over.

In the US, Waymo taxis have been summoned en masse to dead-end streets, topped with traffic cones to stop them from moving and even set ablaze. If it were possible to take a Waymo, tie its shoelaces together and shove it in the back, people would do it.

That says all you need to know about the popularity of the former governor of Texas.

MS NOW’s Rachel Maddow cracked open the wine before the midterm elections even happened. Presumably, this was not the last bottle she enjoyed yesterday.
