'Fix This Square or I Will STOP My FF14 Sub' — Nier: Automata Dev Working on a Fix for Patch That Accidentally Bloated the Game Size to 366GB on PC - IGN
By Google News Technology ·

Nier: Automata got a patch yesterday to add support for more languages to the game (Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese), but it accidentally bloated the game file size to 366GB on PC. That’s 1.5 copies of GTA 6!
A bug caused the entire game to be applied to every DLC pack included in the PC edition, ballooning the overall file size to Call of Duty-esque heights. Nier was previously around 50GB to download.
The game saw a wave of negative reviews come in on Steam following the patch, with players complaining that they were unable to play or, you know, download any other games.
"Claude, please add new language support for my game, no mistakes, masterpiece. It's 366 gigabytes now? Splendid,” said one review, making a joke about Square Enix using AI. “Undeniably good game which I've had to remove from my computer because some genius, presumably misusing automated tools, packed it into itself six times over, making a 360 gig install file. I'll recommend this game after it is fixed,” said another.
“I think the funniest part about the ‘slight’ issue with the new update for language support is the Steam page still lists a 50gb storage requirement. Good one guys,” reads another negative review. “Played this on PS4 loved it but 366GB is unacceptable for a company like them... fix this Square or I will STOP my FF14 sub,” read another.
Square Enix has offered a workaround for the Nier: Automata issue as it works on a fix. “We have confirmed an issue where, following the latest update to the Steam version of Nier: Automata, the installation process indicates that more storage space is required than expected,” the company said in a Japanese tweet.
“We are currently investigating the cause and working on a solution. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience…
