LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas football returns to Lawrence this weekend for a Big 12 matchup against UCF on Saturday afternoon.
The Jayhawks (3-5, 1-4 Big 12) are coming off a 22-16 loss at TCU last weekend. UCF enters the matchup at 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play after suffering a 41-9 loss to Baylor.
Kansas quarterback Cole Ballard made his first start of the season against TCU, throwing for 285 yards and a touchdown. The Jayhawks also got big performances from wide receivers Cam Pickett and Nahzae Cox, who each finished with more than 100 receiving yards.
Pickett caught 10 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, while Cox added five receptions for 145 yards.
Defensively, linebacker Trey Lathan continues to lead the way for Kansas. He recorded a team-high seven tackles against TCU and leads the Jayhawks with 55 tackles this season.
UCF will look to get its offense back on track after last week’s loss to Baylor. The Knights have struggled away from home this season, going 0-3 on the road. Kansas, meanwhile, is 3-1 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
The Jayhawks have won both previous meetings with UCF, including a 27-20 victory in Orlando last season. Kansas also defeated the Knights 51-22 in the first meeting between the programs in 2023.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. Saturday in Lawrence. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
