Arlington native Dane Cook was the most successful comedian in America in the mid-2000s, selling out Madison Square Garden, starring in his own movies, and having his album “Retaliation” go double platinum. Unfounded accusations of joke thievery pushed him to the margins, but as this documentary reveals, Cook’s fall from grace was even more precipitous, thanks to his half-brother and business manager embezzling tens of millions from the comedian.
How to watch: “Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story” is streaming on Netflix
South Korean director Lee Chang-dong is back with his first film since 2018’s “Burning,” one of my favorite movies of the 2010s. His latest tells the story of a married couple (Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu) who live in the shadow of a brutal layoff that led to strikes, police brutality, and death. When an enterprising documentary filmmaker (Cho Yeo-jeong) enters their orbit, their union is strained. If you enjoyed the thorny questions about documentary filmmaking raised by “You Can See Everything” or the social stratification of “Parasite,” you’ll like this one.
How to watch: “Possible Love” is streaming on Netflix.
More new movies streaming: “Super Troopers 3” (Hulu)…
