At around 00:58 on 15 October 2026, an out-of-service passenger train collided with the buffer stop at platform 1 at Liverpool Street station, London.

At the time of the collision the train was travelling at approximately 7 mph (11 km/h). The driver was taken to hospital following the accident but did not suffer any physical injuries. Damage was sustained by the train and the buffer stop as a result of the collision, and the first three vehicles of the train derailed.

We have undertaken a preliminary examination into the circumstances surrounding this accident. Having assessed the evidence which has been gathered to date, we have decided to publish a safety digest.

The safety digest will be made available on our website in the next few weeks.
