Tennis Completes Full Day at ITA Sectionals and Big Green Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's tennis had a full day of action on Friday, with the team competing at ITA Sectional Championships and the first day of Dartmouth's Big Green Invitational. Â

Zuzanna Frankowska and Mischka Sinclaire Goenadi fell to Liberty's Aranai Martinez and Daniella O'Neill in the quarterfinals, 2-6, 7-5 (10-7). Â

"In the first set we were a step slow and made too many unforced errors," head coach Hilary Ritchie said. "I was proud of the way they battled back to earn the second set. Unfortunately, we missed a few balls at the net which swung the momentum in the tie breaker. Zuza and Mischka have had a terrific fall, and they have a lot to build on."Â

The Scarlet Knights opened the day against Brown in doubles. Tina Chen and Naomi Karki came out with a 6-2 victory while Karina Jumazhanova and Zeynep Ilker also picked up a 6-2 win.Â

RU kept it going in doubles against UMass, collecting three victories. Chen and Karki teamed up for a 6-4 win over Amelia Tye and Safina Khabibrakhmanova to improve to 2-0 together, while Case and Schmitz earned a 6-2 victory. Zhou and Cohen capped off doubles play with a dominant 6-0 win over Bali Song and Sharada Gowda. Â

In singles action against UMass, Rutgers earned two victories. Schmitz battled back after dropping the opening set to secure a 5-7, 6-3, (10-4) win over Fiona Ao. Zhou also delivered a strong performance, earning a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sharada Gowda.Â

"We came out strong in doubles against UMass and Brown," assistant coach Noah Lilienthal  said. "UMass came out with a lot of competitiveness and put us on our back foot in singles. We look to come out tomorrow with higher intensity and energy as a team…
